The first video I watched, I noticed that the teacher kept everything simple, easy to understand and follow, as well as providing visual aids. Also, the materials that she used was a common experience that all the students went through together. It seemed that this wasn’t the first lesson for this topic. Also, she pointed out that she gets the students to say the words before they see it written out, she made sure that everything in her class goes back to writing, but makes sure all the other aspects are covered.
I liked how she got the students to make connections with words that have the same sound and how that helps them learn to spell other words by being able to make those sound connections. I liked how to she pointed out that spoken vocabulary grows faster than the written.
I found that there was lots of teacher to student interactions and choral repetition, but also student involvement, such as when she had the students play the flyswatter game which was a multipurpose activity in getting students to both identify site words as well as give and follow directions given to them by classmates.
The next video I watched, the teacher had them listen to a story multiple times, each time listening for something new. It was mostly teacher to student interactions, but each listening, a different level of Bloom’s Taxonomy was used for the understanding and comprehension of the reading.
The last video I watched was different from everything else I’ve observed so far as she used a song. I liked how it helped the students learn in relaxed environment. She went through the song with a different activity, she used a cloze reading on their second listening through, getting the students to listen closely to the song. On their thrid listen of the song, everyone was encouraged to sign along, allowing for choarl repetition. Her final activity was interesting as she got the students to work in pairs and write up a few sentences to sing along with the music. She didn’t have them focus on making anything rhyme or fit to the music perfectly, but just got them to use the language and have fun with it.
